Fourth Surfboards - BP Mini - Base Construction
Introducing the Mini Bearman Pro, a brand new addition to the Fourth Surfboards range landing just in time for summer 2019.
The premise behind this versatile small-to-medium-wave weapon is a simple one, and it doesn’t take a genius to work it out (or to ride it, for that matter). You probably already know the Bearman Pro, a performance mal that’s noted for its agility, responsiveness, and exceptional flow. The Mini Bearman Pro’s a bit like that, but, well, not as big. It’s easier to duck-dive and negotiate unruly line-ups on, easier to put on rail, easier to fit into tight spaces – cheeky barrels, steep pockets and motor vehicles alike.
Like its larger brother, it was conceived in Fourth’s Newquay factory one cold winter’s night following lengthy negotiations between head shaper Luke Hart and team rider Adam ‘Bearman’ Griffiths, one of the world’s best longboarders. The bottom shape – vee through the nose into vee-double, double concave through the fins back into vee out the tail –perfectly complements the flattish, continuous rocker to create a consummate all-rounder. This board has plenty of hold in bigger, more powerful surf and speed to burn when conditions are slow and sluggish; meanwhile the lift in the nose and tail rocker will help with turns and steeper drops.
The outline’s relatively full, the volume distributed fairly evenly throughout, and with the full rails you’ve got a really nice stable platform, enabling a surfer to use pretty much all of the board. This stability, combined with the Mini Bearman’s prodigious wave-catching ability, also makes this a great board for those surfers straddling the beginner-intermediate divide, or looking to buy their first proper surfboard. At the same time, there’s no compromise on performance, and more experienced surfers will have no problem putting the Mini Bearman through its paces.
The Base Construction (a polyurethane blank with polyester resin) is still considered the most versatile and all-round performance specific construction used the world over by touring surf professionals. At Fourth Surfboards only premium materials are used to produce top-quality boards; US Blanks at the core in blue foam and Hexcel Glass for the laminate bonded with Silmar resin for best balance between weight, performance and durability.
The Fourth construction method sees the board finished in 24/7 heat controlled environments to ensure curing times are at optimum levels to reach a finish unrivalled in Europe. The board is then sanded to a 240 dry sand finish ensuring that there is zero plastic lacquer on the board that can often look and feel horrible after a couple of months in the ocean
